In Which I Dress For A Bridal Shower

HELLO PALS,

This weekend I had not one, but TWO OccasionsTM to dress for!!! One was a surprise party, and the other was a bridal shower for My Own Dear Sister. We will split them into two separate posts to get the most mileage out of these Rare Happenings.

For the bridal shower, which was a brunch held At The Home Of Our Parents, I’d originally planned to wear the dress I wore at my college graduation, freshly awakened from its winter slumber in the back of my closet. However, my legs are still in their Winter Slumbering State, and since ensuring that they are smooth, hydrated, and Not In Danger Of Blinding Anyone is a PROCESS that I didn’t end up having time for, I decided to wear pants instead.

One of the reasons I started this Fashion BlogTM was to come up with outfits I could refer to in situations like this—for out-of-the-ordinary Occasions and also for General Use when a pre-planned outfit falls through. I was therefore happy to turn back to an Unpublished Look I’d photographed Several Inches Of Hair Ago (i.e. sometime last summer or fall) for a Fail-Proof Formula.

HOWEVER, my Muay Thai Toe is not feeling heels at the moment, so we made some adjustments.

Shirt - Gap, bought 8/2018

Pants - Old Navy High-Waisted Pixie Ankle Pants, bought 1/2021 - still available in other colors, wearing size 12 Tall

Sandals - Essex Lane Moira Sandal, bought 6/2020

Sneakers - Target Mossimo Supply Co., bought ca. 2017

This outfit ended up being perfect—comfortable, warm enough for the chilly morning and cool enough for a warmer afternoon, and ideal for zooming around with my sister’s greyhound (spoiler alert: he’s faster). The one thing I’ll say about this shirt is that it doesn’t stay in place very well—it kept popping up on my shoulders, which was fine except that it’s too short to stay tucked in when it does.

As for the rest of the Kids These Days, some of them wore floral dresses and heels, flats, or sandals (which was the General Formula I’d seen at the two (2) other bridal showers I’ve been to, both several years ago), while others wore light-wash jeans with spring tops (lots of Statement Sleeves in attendance) or colored blazers. Dresses with sneakers were also a Popular Choice, and a combination that I plan on wearing more often.

In an Upcoming Post, I will reveal the Surprise Party Outfit, and be sure to check my Instagram (@barntobusinesscasual) this week for an EXCLUSIVE glimpse of the most glamorous look of them all!!!!

Until then, I remain,

YOUR PAL.
